A PNC MP submitted an emergency motion calling for the investigation into the comments made by MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail about President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and former President Mohamed Ameen Didi.

At a press briefing on Monday, Fayyaz insinuated that the people would make President Muizzu face the same fate as President Ameen who was beaten to nearly death by an angry mob in 1954.

The country's first President who established a republic after centuries of monarch-based rule never recovered from the beating and died while exiled.

MP for Milandhoo Constituency Hassan Mufeed submitted the motion and said that the comments by MDP's Chairperson encouraged terrorism and that this was a crime under the law.

He said the MDP had made these statements to promote a particular ideology, creating fear among the public and endangering the life of another person.

The MP called on authorities to investigate the matter.

When asked whether the issue should be debated, 44 out of 53 members present voted in favor and eight against. One MP abstained from voting.
