The Parliament has approved appointing former President of the Elections Commission Fuwad Thaufeeq as the new Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand.

The President recommended Fuwad for the post on the 25th of last month and the Parliament chair had asked the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee to research and compile a report on the recommendation.

The Committee decided to approve Fuwad for the appointment without even interviewing him given the former President of the Election Commission's extensive background.

The Committee's decision was put to a vote to the whole house today, and the 58 MPs who took part all decided to vote in favor of appointing Fuwad as the country's next Ambassador to Thailand.

Fuwad had completed two stints as the President of the Elections, the first one from 2009 to 2014. He was also the most recent President of the electoral watch dog as his term from September 2021 ended just last month.
