The Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau says in the past year disciplinary actions were taken against 50 policemen and that 20 policemen were dismissed from the force.

He said this while speaking on a TV program aired by the Public Service Media PSM.

The Commissioner said that he is working to ensure that every police officer follows the laws and regulations in their line of work.

He said the police are being given the necessary training and if a police officer commits an illegal act, immediate action will be taken against them. The Commissioner noted that the force does take cases filed against policemen seriously and that in the past year, disciplinary action was taken against 50 policemen and that 20 others were dismissed.

The Commissioner said action would be taken against any police officer who violates the rules. He added that two independent agencies oversee the work of the police and the Maldives Police Service will fully cooperate with the investigations conducted by these agencies.
