Immigration says more than 4,000 illegal immigrants have been deported as of October 21st.

At a press conference held at the President's Office, Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamman Waheed said as of yesterday a total of 4,361 illegal immigrants have been deported.

He said the aim is to deport a total of 5,000 by November 17th.

The controller also said that a total of 861 cases have been reported to the civilian immigration surveillance system, Immigration Watch, and that Immigration had attended 596 cases.

Shamman noted that 135 foreigners are currently in detention centers. He also said that Immigration has carried out 186 raids and that 1,237 places were searched in these raids.

Immigration said the confidentiality of the case and the cases reported through Immigration Watch will be maintained and the person providing the information will be able to report it as such in cases where the person providing the information does not wish to disclose his/her information.
