A man has died in an accident that happened at Velaana International Airport today.
Police said the accident occurred when a luggage vehicle crashed into the light and camera structure on the Apron of the airport. Police said the victim of the accident was the driver of the luggage vehicle and that he was rushed to the Airport Clinic and then to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male'.
Police further said that the individual was declared dead on arrival at the clinic. They said the individual was taken to IGMH for further observations and that it was reported that the victim had no physical injuries on his body.
Police identified the person as a 45-year-old local man. They added they were further investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Maldives Airports Company Limited MACL identified the man as Aslam Adam via a post on their X account.
The company which oversees the operations of Velaana International Airport said that it was saddened by the passing of one of their employees and that Aslam would be remembered for his dedication.
