Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident where a boy was forcefully isolated, assaulted, video graphed, and blackmailed in Laamu Atoll Gan.

The victim's mother wrote on a social media post that a few months back, a boy was dragged from the mosque and assaulted by a group of other boys and that this time her son had fallen victim to such an incident.

She recounted her son was dragged out of his room while he was sleeping and that his assailants had warned that they would kill him if he did not obey their commands.

She said the boy was then dragged into the trees, stripped naked, and then video graphed. The mother wrote on her post that the boy was beaten with a stick and his assailants then threatened to leak the video if the boy did not pay them.

She added that the video was then leaked to an Instagram group with other kids of the same age.

She posted screenshots of messages he had sent to the boy and the group along with the post. Screenshots show the child being threatened with death.

In a message to the media, Police said the post on social media have come to their attention and that they are now gathering information from the relevant agencies.
