Deputy Ministers at the Youth Ministry Mariyam Shiuna and Malsha Shareef have resigned from their posts 8 months after they were initially suspended.
Both the youth Ministers were suspended after they made inappropriate comments on social media about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They along with another Deputy Minister at the same Ministry were suspended on the 7th of January this year.
A top official from the Youth Ministry confirmed that both Malsha and Shiuna have resigned from their posts. It was reported that both resigned for personal reasons.
The comments from the Deputy Ministers soured the relationship between the Maldives and India with both countries summoning diplomats to clarify the situation.
The government of Maldives distanced itself from the comments made by the three officials saying that they were their personal views and did not reflect that of the government.
The relationship between the two neighbours have since improved with the Foreign Minister of India recently visiting the Maldives.
