A foreigner has been arrested at Velaana International Airport VIA for attempting to smuggle a large amount of US dollars out of the country.
The Aviation Security Command said via a post on X that they had seized USD 81,030 in cash from the luggage of a Bangladeshi national attempting to travel from Male' to the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka.
The person was traveling to Bangladesh via US-Bangla Airlines.
Aviation Command said that the person was detained for attempting to smuggle the cash out of the country by hiding it in his luggage.
It further said that the screening team caught the person.
Aviation Command also said that the suspect has now been handed over to the relevant agency.
