President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu congratulated the new Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra following her appointment as the new leader of the Kingdom.

In a post shared on social media platform X, the President noted that the Kingdom of Thailand expressed hope for a new dawning of prosperity under the Prime Minister's able leadership.

He also stated that he looks forward to working together to strengthen further the close ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Thailand.

The 37-year-old was sworn in earlier today, becoming the youngest prime minister of Thailand.

She nabbed the spot just days after Srettha Thavisin was dismissed as premier by the Constitutional Court, a judiciary central to Thailand’s two decades of political turmoil.

Paetongtarn won by nearly two-thirds in a House of Representatives vote on Friday, no stranger to the process coming from a family in Thai politics as the daughter of divisive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and niece of Yingluck Shinawatra, Thailand’s first female prime minister.

Diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Thailand were established on June 21, 1979.
