An MP has requested the Parliament's Judiciary Committee to dismiss Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem.

In a letter addressed to the Committee, the MP for Hulhudhoo Constituency Mohamed Shahid said that the Prosecutor General should be impartial, act as per the Constitution and the law passed by Parliament, and be free from the influence of any party.

The letter also said that the Prosecutor General should base his work on equality and accountability, avoiding the benefit of certain parties.

However, the MP accused the Prosecutor General of acting against the Constitution and doing things unacceptable to him and recommended the Committee to dismiss him.

The letter from MP Shahid highlighted several reasons why the Prosecutor General should be dismissed including filing the sexual harassment cases against former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.

The Committee decided to consider the MP's request and further deliberate on the matter. The PG would be dismissed once the Committee votes to request it to the floor of the house and the house passes the recommendation.
