The Parliament has recommended appointing former Finance Minister Ahmed Munawar as the Governor of the Central Bank Maldives Monetary Authority MMA.
The recommendation to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was passed at the parliamentary session held today with the vote from all 78 MPs who took part in the vote.
Munavar's recommendation as the new MMA Governor was cleared by the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament yesterday.
Earlier this month, the President formally proposed to the People's Majlis, the appointment of Munawar as the new Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority, in compliance with the aforementioned Section 6(3) of the Maldives Monetary Authority Act 1981 (Act No. 6/81).
Ahmed Munawar previously served as the Minister of Finance and currently holds the position of advisor to the Minister of Finance.
This all came into play after the Parliament passed a recommendation to advise the President to dismiss the former Governor of MMA Ali Hashim who was appointed by the former administration.
President removed Hashim as the Governor of MMA on the 22nd of this month.
