Prominent local businessman Abdul Latheef Hussain Manik (Athama Abdul Latheef) has passed away.
He was 94 years old.
Sources have reported that he passed away while under treatment at ADK Hospital today.
Athama Abdul Latheef has made many contributions to the economy with several business ventures over the years. He was a pioneer in arranging Hajj and Umrah trips for locals and assisted many in making their pilgrimages.
He was awarded the National Award in 1991 for his outstanding contributions to the community.
After working as a mathematics teacher at Majeeduya School, he worked as the manager of the famous National Hotel in Male'. He then started his own business, selling hardware equipment. He then went into the pilgrimage and tourism business.
Athama Abdul Latheef had married four times and left behind 9 children including 5 sons and 4 daughters.
