Tourism Ministry statistics show that the total tourist arrivals for this year have surpassed the 1.1 million mark with a 9.5 percent growth compared to last year.
The statistics show that a total of 1,136,047 tourists have arrived in the Maldives in 2024 up until July 23rd. It also showed that a total of 1,878, 543 tourists arrived in the whole of 2023 and this year's arrivals are likely to surpass this figure.
Tourism Ministry statistics also show that China is comfortably the top market in the Maldives for tourist arrivals. It showed that a total of 147,241 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. This is an impressive 13 percent of the market. Last year, China was at the 3rd spot in the top 10 markets.
Behind China, Russia maintained its claim on 2nd spot on the list with 120,366 arrivals in 2024. The UK, Italy, and Germany complete the top 5 markets in the Maldives.
India, which held the top spot for most of last year, has now dropped to 6th place with a total of 69,453 arrivals.
