The MP for Hithadhoo Constituency Ibrahim Nazil has compared the situation of Addu City residents who have been experiencing frequent power outages to that of the situation in Palestine.

The MP made the comments while submitting an emergency motion to the parliament calling on the government to rectify the power outage issue in Addu City.

Nazil, who is also the PG leader of the opposition MDP, said that residents of Addu city are constantly facing difficulties due to the outages.

You know in this day and age, if you don’t have electricity, you can’t even get water, at least you can’t even flush the toilet, it’s a house without supply water connection and that’s it. They cannot even perform ablution in these conditions.

He added that the citizens of Addu City are now in the same situation as the residents of Palestine who have been suffering inhumane oppression and genocide under the occupation of Israel.

The MP for Gan Constituency Yoosuf Nasheed also expressed concern during the debate about the emergency saying that the islands of Laamu Atoll are also experiencing constant power outages.

He also responded to the comments made by MP Nazil by stating that there are no people on earth who are suffering the same fate as the people of Palestine and that he cannot compare Palestine with Addu City, even as an example.
