Police have arrested a man who ran on the pitch and attacked the referee of a football match being played in the Southern city of Fuvamulah last night.
The video of the incident is now circulating on social media and Police said that the incident has been brought to their attention.
Police further said that they had arrested a local man aged 34 due to the incident.
The altercation was reported at the semi-final match of the Fuvamulah City Council Futsal tournament between Malegan Sports Club and South Side Sports Club.
The video of the incident showed the referee standing over a player down with an injury on the pitch alongside some other players. The attacker, a supporter from the comes flying on the pitch and gives a heavy kick on the referee's back which makes him fly into the player already down on the pitch.
Officials and other players restrain the attacker while the referee is seen jogging away from the scene. It is not clear if the referee sustained any injuries in the attack and why the man attacked the referee in the first place.
Police are investigating the incident.
