The Controller General of Maldives Immigration Mohamed Shamman Waheed says Immigration will deport the foreigner detained last night for damaging an Immigration vehicle during a raid.

Shamman recounted via X that Immigration and Police carried out a special operation last night as authorities continue to crack down on illegal businesses operated by expatriates in the Greater Male' Area.

He said a foreigner obstructed the immigration raid and damaged the vehicle used in the operation. The Controller General confirmed that the person is currently in immigration custody.

Shamman assured that Immigration will take strict action against the person under Immigration law and deport the individual. He continued by saying that the operation to track down illegal immigrants will continue without hesitation and fear.

Last night, authorities raided 4 takeaway and coffee shops in Male' to track down illegal migrants and detained 7 individuals including 6 men and 1 woman. The detainees include the individual who attacked the immigration vehicle.

Authorities have detained more than 100 illegal immigrants since they began their raids last month.
