Maldives Immigration says they have detained several illegal expatriates in a raid in Hulhumale' Phase I.

Immigration said yesterday evening they conducted a raid operation in Hulhumale' Phase I targeting illegal expatriates suspected of running takeaway coffee shop businesses in the area.

It said that they detained 8 expatriates for further investigation. Immigration did not give any more details about the nationality of the migrants arrested in yesterday's raid.

Immigration has been teaming up with the Police to conduct raids on suspicious business activities involving illegal expatriates in the Maldives.

On Wednesday, the Special Task Force conducted a raid operation in Male' following intelligence about running possible prostitution businesses which led to the detention of two Vietnamese women.

Last week, Immigration led a special raid operation near the USD ATM in Male' and detained two illegal expatriates who were extensively involved in foreign exchange activities were detained for further investigation.
