The Parliamentary Group of the ruling PNC has donated MVR 200,000 to the Palestine fundraising telethon initiated by the Public Service Media PSM under the directive of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaker of the Parliament and MP for Fonadhoo Constituency Abdul Rahman Abdullah handed over the funds from the PNC PG to the Managing Director of PSM Zeena Zahir.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Speaker of the Parliament said that the people of the Maldives are most concerned about the harsh realities facing the people of Palestine and that it was important to have representation from the people in the telethon to raise funds for Palestine.
Abdul Raheem said that among the presidents who have ruled the Maldives so far, the current President is the one who pays the most attention to the Palestinian issue. He went on to say that the MPs wanted to be the first to respond to such an initiative started by the President for the people of Palestine.
Abdul Raheem urged the people to participate in this regardless of their ideology and express their love and concern for the Palestinian people.
Under the direction of the President, the Public Service Media has appointed an independent auditor to ensure that the funds raised from the event reach their rightful beneficiaries. The telethon will continue until 12 midnight and 13 fund boxes have been placed in different parts of the capital city.
