Police say several people were injured in a collision between two launches traveling in the Greater Male' Area.
They said that Police received the report of the incident around 23:00 last night and that two launches had collided near the entrance of the Hulhule' lagoon.
They said that Marine Police were dispatched to the scene of the collision which injured 7 people.
Police further said that the injured were rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male' for treatment. However, the extent of their injuries remains unclear.
Police said that they were further investigating the incident. Photos shared by the Marine Police showed that one of the vessels involved in the collision sustained heavy damages on its side.
Marine accidents are increasing in the Maldives. Recently, a foreigner was killed while diving for reef fish when a launch ran over him while he was under water.
