Police say they have rescued a man who was swept out to the sea near the Sinamale' Bridge.
They said they received the report of the man being swept out to the sea around 12:35 in the afternoon. Police said that they rescued the man and then rushed him to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital where the man is being treated.
Police did not give details about his nationality or his injuries.
The country is experiencing a bout of very bad weather with heavy rain, strong winds and very rough seas.
Last week, Police advised the public to take caution when traveling via sea and not to go for picnics to uninhabited islands and make sandbank trips.
Police also advised against going swimming due to the strong winds and subsequent currents.
