Maldives Meteorological Services, Met Office has issued an orange alert from Fuvamulah City to Addu City.

The orange alert is the second-highest weather alert in the weather forecast system used in the Maldives with only the red alert ahead of it.

The Met Office said strong winds of 34-40 miles per hour are expected in the region between 15:00 and 19:00 today. The Met Office also said that gust winds could reach 60 miles per hour with very rough seas in the area.

Earlier, the Met Office had extended the yellow alert it had issued over major parts of the country. The warning was issued from Baa Atoll to Addu City from 13:30 to 17:30.

It warned that heavy rain and strong winds of 28-35 miles per hour are expected during this period. The Met Office said that gust winds can reach 50 miles per hour with very rough seas expected in major parts of the country.

Authorities have advised all, especially seafarers to be weary of the bad weather affecting major parts of the country.
