Health Protection Agency HPA says 117 cases of Chikungunya were reported in the last week alone.

HPA said that since the beginning of this year to last Saturday, 240 cases of the disease have been reported. The Agency noted that the upward trend in Chikungunya cases began on the 21st of March.

In a further breakdown, HPA said that between 28th April and 4th May, 117 cases of Chikungunya have been reported in the country.

In April, a total of 177 cases were reported across the country while 58 cases have been reported so far this month.

HPA said between 25th March and 4th May, the highest number of cases have been reported from Male'. HPA said that 193 cases of Chikungunya have been recorded from Male' in the period while 40 cases were reported from Hulhumale' in the period.

The Agency said 5 cases of Chikungunya have been reported from the inner islands within the same period.

Meanwhile, HPA said last week (28th April to 4th May) 40 cases of Dengue have been reported in the country. HPA stated 239 cases of the disease were reported in April while another 40 cases have been reported so far this month.

Between 1st April and 4th May, most of the cases have been reported in Hulhumale' with 142 cases reported within this period. In the same period, 47 cases of Dengue have been reported from Male' while outside of the Greater Male' Area, the most cases have been reported from Kaafu Atoll.
