Male' Water and Sewerage Company Ltd MWSC says if the April water bill is higher than the March water bill, the increase will be deducted as a discount.

This comes after the government decided to give discounts on household utility bills for usage during Ramadan.

MWSC said that the government's Ramadan discount would be applied to bills sent between March 11th to April 11th. It said that during that period, the company had given a discount of MVR 14.3 million and that this counts for 24.5 percent of the domestic category billed.

MWSC noted that the bills covered water and electricity consumption during Ramadan to varying degrees, so the bills sent during Ramadan as well as the price of water and electricity consumed during Ramadan will be discounted on a fixed basis.

The Company further said if the deduction is less than 10 percent of the April bill, the discount will be increased to 10 percent.

At the same time, this year’s April bill is lower than the March bill, but the company will offer a 10 percent discount on the April bill.

Additionally, MWSC said that if the first bill sent to newly installed water and electricity customers is the April bill of this year, such customers will also get a 10 percent discount on the April bill.

MWSC stated customers will be credited for the amount of the April discount, changes in the amount due to amendments to the bills of those whose April bills have been sent. The company said that it will share this information with all customers via SMS from the 5th of this month.
