Police say they have found the 14-year-old boy who stole a launch docked at the lagoon of Meemu Dhiggaru to travel alone to Male' to meet his 13-year-old girlfriend.
They confirmed that the 14-year-old boy was the one who stole the launch from the Cinamon resort and drove it himself to Male'. Police said that the boy had now been handed over to his family and that they were further investigating the case.
Police also confirmed that a 13-year-old girl, supposedly the boy's girlfriend, reported missing yesterday from Hulhumale' Phase II has been found safe and sound.
The crew of the launch reported the vessel missing yesterday morning while at the same time, the boy's family also reported him missing from Dhiggaru island. The boy stole his mother's phone as well as took some of his clothes and his national identity card on his trip to Male'.
Once the launch was reported missing from Dhiggaru, Police launched an operation to locate the vessel and found it docked at Hulhumale's MTCC lagoon.
The story of the two young lovers is being reported in different ways, with alarming reports saying that the 14-year-old made the solo trip to rescue his girlfriend from a domestic violence situation at her home.
