The government has announced that it will be giving student loans to all applicants who meet the entry criteria.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Higher Education Dr. Mariyam Maria at the 3rd session of the public forum 'Ahaa' held last night.
Answering a question from a member of the public, the Minister said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu aims to streamline the student loan application process and remove the hurdles facing those who want to pursue higher education.
She said that the President has decided to issue student loans to all the applicants who meet the loan criteria this time around. The Ministry opened the application for student loans on the 29th of February with the initial deadline set for the 25th of this month. The Ministry had then extended the loan application deadline till the 2nd of next month.
The Minister explained under this loan scheme, the students can study in the country of their choice. She said that the loan is given to the students in the fields that are most needed in the Maldives. The President's manifesto includes construction, aviation, agriculture, and other sectors that are essential to the country.
