One of the lawyers on the defense team of former President Abdullah Yameen has been appointed as a state Minister of this administration.
Abdullah Shiyaz was appointed as the State Minister of the Economic Ministry. His appointment has been confirmed by the Chief Spokesperson of the President's Office Heena Waleed.
Shiyaz has previously acted as a coordinator of the Economic Ministry as well as a deputy minister in previous governments.
The lawyer was part of Yameen's defense team when he attended the hearings on the money laundering and bribery charges.
He was also present when the High Court issued its ruling for Yameen's appeal case on the 18th of this month at which the Court voided the conviction given by the lower court and ordered the court to re-try the case.
