Utility Companies Stelco and Fenaka say the administration has given MVR 45 million as a discount for utility bills during Ramdan as per the pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

During a press conference held today at the President's Office, this information was given by the managing directors of state-owned utility companies Fenaka Corporation Limited and State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).

Speaking at the press briefing, Managing Director of Stelco Hussain Fahmy said that per the President's decision, all the domestic customers were given a discount during Ramdan. He noted that even new customers were given the discount.

The Managing Director explained the peak curve of electricity usage during Ramadan compared to other months. Fahmy said during other months the peak is between 12:00 p.m. and 02:00 p.m. and during the night.

He said that however, during Ramdan the peak was between 4:00 p.m. and 06:00 p.m.

Fenaka MD Muaz Mohamed Rasheed said no problems had been noted in taking electricity readings and billing. He said the billing was based on the standards set by the URA and the electricity consumption during Ramadan had increased significantly.

Muaz added that Fenaka it self gave MVR 25 million as discounts for utility bills.
