The Elections Commission has confirmed that its officials have started closing voting queues as the voting time given for today's parliamentary election is over.
The Commission had repeatedly said that voting for the election would be from 08:00 in the morning to 17:30 and that voting time would not be extended for any reason.
The Commission said via X that voting queues have now been closed and that ballot boxes would be closed once all waiting in the queues have cast their votes. If no voters are waiting in queues, electoral officials are expected to close the ballot boxes.
It had shared that up until 17:00, 207,693 voters had cast their ballots in the election which accounts for 72.96 percent.
The Commission also said that 76,970 are yet to vote 30 minutes before vote closing time and that this accounts for 27.04 percent of the eligible population.
It had said that 284,663 voters are eligible to cast their votes in today's election held to elect 93 MPs to the country's 20th Parliament.
