The Elections Commission says more than 47,000 voters have cast ballots in the first two hours of voting in today's parliamentary elections.

In its latest update, the Commission said that a total of 47,296 voters had cast their ballots by 10:00 am this morning. Voting began at 08:00 earlier today across the country.

In a further breakdown, the Commission said that a total of 17,885 women and 29,441 men have now voted in today's polls. The Commission said that this accounts for 16.61 percent of the total eligible voters.

It noted that 237, 367 voters are yet to cast their ballots which accounts for 83.93 percent of the voters.

A total of 284,663 voters are eligible for today's parliamentary election which would see the people elect 93 Parliamentarians to the 20th Majlis.

A total of 368 candidates are vying for the 93 seats including 130 independent candidates.
