President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Hassan Zakarriya as a member of the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM).
Hassan Zakariyya was appointed according to Article 168 (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of the Maldives and per Section 4(a) of Act no. 8/2008 (Elections Commission Act).
Before issuing the letter of appointment, the oath of office was administered to Hassan Zakariyya by the Supreme Court Judge Hon. Ali Rasheed Hussain at a ceremony held at the President's Office today.
Before his appointment to the Elections Commission, Zakarriya has been acting as the Commission's Secretary General since 2021.
His appointment came after long-serving Commission member and Vice President of the Commission Ismail Habeeb completed his term as a member of the electoral watchdog.
