Former President Abdullah Yameen says this government is influencing his appeal case at the High Court and that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is not doing anything to free him.
He commented while speaking at a campaign rally held by his party PNF ahead of the Parliamentary Elections.
Yameen said that members of the public are asking President Muizzu why he (Yameen) is still not freed and that the President keeps saying that he is doing all he can.
However, the former President said that there is nothing President Muizzu is doing to free him from his 11-year jail sentence.
Yameen also said none of the top officials of this government does not wish to see him freed. He further said that he could be jailed tomorrow but would not stop discussing these issues.
The former President was convicted of money laundering and accepting bribes back in December of 22 and sentenced to 11 years in jail. His lawyers have filed an appeal at the High Court but the proceedings have been delayed with the latest hearing held in November of last year.
Yameen was transferred from jail to house arrest back in September after President Muizzu won the Presidential Election.
