Male' City Council says it is continuing the mega-clean-up of Male' City as it reels from an unusual amount of waste on street corners around the city.

The Council said that it picked up 17 pick-up (350 kg) loads of waste between 09:00 pm and 01:00 am last night. It also said it collected 11 truckloads (each 1.5 tons) last night.

Sharing more about this, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim said that yesterday, the hardworking staff of the council collected 22.5 tons (more than 22,000kg) in four hours.

The Mayor said that in the last 16 days, a staggering 222.5 tons of waste has been collected within Male' City and that this was 9 containers in the size of 25 ft.

Azim implored the residents of Male' City not to gather waste on street corners and work together to make the city clean and beautiful.

Multiple piles of rubbish and waste popped up across Male', Villimale, and Hulhumale' with households cleaning for the Holy month of Ramadan.
