The Democrats have expressed concerns over the lack of waste management in Male' City ahead of the Holy month of Ramadan.
The Democrats issued a statement today as multiple piles of rubbish and waste popped across Male', Villimale, and Hulhumale' with households cleaning ahead of the Holy month.
The Democrats said that Male' City has been made a junkyard with piles of waste on almost every corner. It said that the gathered waste includes old furniture as well as rock piles and food wastage.
The Democrats said that the waste management situation has become so dire in the Male' that it now poses a health and safety risk to the residents of the City.
It noted that even though the city has become so unclean ahead of the Holy month, local authorities have failed to take action to rectify the issue. The Democrats also noted that the Male' City Council has failed to address the issue and has not made arrangements to collect waste generated as residents carried out house cleaning for the holy month.
The Democrats called on the Male' City Mayor and the Council to address the issue as soon as possible and to make the City a 'livable' city as per the Mayor's election pledges.
