Ministry of Transport says a total of 281 unused vehicles have been destroyed since it teamed with other agencies to solve the traffic congestion problem plaguing the capital city.

The Ministry said via a post on X that in the last three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) a huge number of vehicles have been removed and destroyed. It said that 123 vehicles were destroyed in the last three days.

The Ministry also said that this takes the total number of vehicles destroyed to a staggering 281.

The Ministry is teaming up with the Police, Male' City Council, HDC, Customs, MTCC, Housing Ministry, and the Economic Ministry to carry out the urban traffic decongestion program.

The Transport Ministry said that the program's purpose was to decongest the streets of Male' and ensure the safety of those who use the roads.

The Ministry further said that these efforts would make the streets safer for all and reduce the number of fatal accidents in the highly crowded capital city.

It said that authorities have come up with short-term and long-term plans for traffic decongestion and that they would schedule how these efforts would be carried out.

The Ministry also stated that the efforts would be carried out in two phases and that today's launch was part of the first phase.
