Police say a speeding cyclist crashed into a van parked outside Immigration Detention Center and caused injuries as well as damages.
They said that police officers out on patrol saw the speeding cyclist crash into the parked van in Hulhumale' Phase 1 around 02:32 a.m.
Police said that the cyclist was injured in the collision and that the person was rushed to Treetop Hospital for further treatment. Police identified the victim as a 19-year-old local man.
Police also said that the cycle had been damaged beyond repair in the clash and that the Immigration van also sustained damages in the collision.
They added that they were further investigating the incident.
Traffic accidents have grown frequent in the Maldives this year especially in the congested Greater Male' Area.
Authorities are working to decongest the capital city to decrease the number of accidents that happen on the streets of Male' and Hulhumale'.
