Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Haleel says the government is working to provide MRI scanning services at Raa Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital after Ramadan.

He said this while addressing the residents of the island today while accompanying President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his tour of the islands in Raa Atoll and Baa Atoll.

Haleel said that the President wants to develop tertiary hospitals across the country and remove the need for the public to just rely on Male' for medical treatments. The Minister said that the idea is to build state-of-the-art hospitals in five regions in the country.

The Minister said that the Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital will start providing MRI services after Ramadan. He noted that the hospital needs more doctors as it provides medical services to not only people from Raa Atoll but from other nearby Atolls too.

He said that right now there are 10 medical officers on the island and believed that adequate services cannot be provided with these numbers.

The Minister said that once the hospital is developed in the President's vision, it would be a tertiary-level hospital.

Minister Haleel further said that the President hopes to establish MRI services across different regions of the country and remove the need to travel to Male' for such medical treatments.
