Police say they have launched an investigation into the violent scenes that unfolded at the MPL FAM 2nd Division Quarterfinal match between Victory Sports Club and Kuda Henveiru United.
Videos on social media show supporters of the football clubs running out onto the pitch and attacking players and officials alike. It is not clear why the fight broke out in the first place.
Police said that they were investigating the violence at the match and that are still yet to make an arrest regarding the case.
When the match erupted into violence, Victory Sports Club was leading Kuda Henveiru United by 3-1. After the fighting started, Police officials at the stadium for security purposes sprang into action to stop the violence but were unable to do so.
Police were dispatched to the stadium to further quell the situation.
Tournament organizer FAM tried to continue the match after the violence erupted but were unable to calm the situation and eventually decided to abandon the match.
