President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reassured the residents of Buruni Island that the Government is committed to addressing their concerns. He made this statement today while addressing the residents of Buruni Island, as part of his current tour of some islands of Kolhumadulu Atoll.
Highlighting beach erosion as a significant obstacle hindering local tourism in Buruni, the President gave his assurance to expedite and implement delayed projects in line with the resident's preferences.
He emphasized the island port's progress was a primary challenge, acknowledging setbacks since its inception under the previous Administration.
The President outlined the Government's policy to incorporate uninhabited islands within the jurisdiction of Island Councils, following established guidelines. He noted that Buruni has the opportunity to seek jurisdiction under these guidelines, boosting the island's revenue and income.
The President reiterated the need to prioritize development plans to align with the country’s economic goals.
