President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, based on the Cabinet's recommendation, has decided to appoint a fishermen's representative to the Board of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO).
The President made this decision following the Cabinet's deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.
This decision aligns with the Administration’s ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap and aims to increase fishermen's participation in MIFCO’s operations. The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources will make an imminent announcement for interested candidates to apply for the position. The President will then select a representative to the MIFCO Board from eligible applicants who expressed interest in the public announcement.
Following today's Cabinet discussions, the President additionally directed the preparation of a roadmap to establish a 'Fishermen's Co-operative Society’. This roadmap will draw upon the experiences of other countries, relevant research, and expert opinions to create a suitable model for fishermen across the country.
