Parliament authorities rushed one MP to the hospital earlier today as violent scuffles broke out in the Parliament chamber amid disruption by PNC MPs to stop the parliamentary session.
The Parliament is having an extraordinary session today with Cabinet Ministers approval high on its agenda. But MPs from one of the coalition partners PNC disrupted the session but locking the main door used by MPs and locking out some of the MPs from the Democrats and MDP.
Some video footage and photos are circulating on social media, one such image shows the MP for Kanditheem Constituency Abdullah Shameem Abdul Hakeem sitting on the seat designated for the Speaker of the Parliament.
Images later showed violent scuffles breaking out between MDP MPs and PNC MPs. At one point one of the MDP MPs appears to kneel on one of the MPs from PNC.
It was later reported that the PNC MP for Kanditheem Shameem received blows to his head and sustained head injuries with blood trickling down from behind his years as per videos on social media.
MP Shameem was then rushed to the hospital but the extent of his injuries and his condition are still unclear. But he remains under treatment at ADK hospital and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef visited the injured MP a while ago.
