The Parliamentary Group of Maldives Democratic Party MDP has issued a three-line whip to withhold approval for three Ministers and the Attorney General appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The Ministers include the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, the Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, and the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
MDP has also included Attorney General Ahmed Usham in the list of cabinet members they would not give their approval to.
Earlier today, the Democrats issued a three-line whip saying that they too would withhold approval for some cabinet Ministers.
In a statement issued minutes before the extraordinary parliament session with the minister's approval on the agenda, the democrats said that it was alarmed and concerned by some of the policies the current administration is implementing.
It said that after discussions within the party, it was decided that the party would withhold its approval from some of the Ministers.
The statement further said that a strong opposition that holds the government accountable is needed for good governance and holding the government and its ministers accountable should be the responsibility of the Parliament.
