The Maldives and Sri Lanka have held talks over resuming training sessions for the members of the Parliament of both the countries which was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
These discussions were held during the meeting between the Maldivian Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam and the Sri Lankan Speaker of the Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
At the meeting held in the Sri Lankan Parliamentary House, Speaker Aslam thanked the Sri Lankan Speaker of the Parliament for his invitation and spoke about the historic relationship between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
In his remarks, Abeywardena emphasized that the diplomatic relationship between the two countries is strong and time-tested. He ensured that though the governments of the two countries have changed over the years, the relationship between the two countries remained ever-strong.
Aslam, who is visiting Sri Lanka on a five-day trip also met with the country's acting Foreign Minister and held discussions of mutual interests to both countries.
Several MPs accompanied the Speaker on his trip to Sri Lanka. They include the MP for Hulhumale' Constituency Ali Niyaz, MP for Henveriu South Constituency Hussain Shaheem, and MP for Henveiru Central Constituency Ali Azim.
Councillor General of the Parliament Fathimath Niusha is also accompanying the Speaker on his trip to Sri Lanka.
