The Elections Commission has announced that it will hold the upcoming Parliamentary Election during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In a statement today, the Commission explained its decision to hold the Election on the 17th of March, during the first week of Ramadan.

The Commission said that there are huge administrative hurdles to holding the Elections on a later date in Ramadan. The Commission said that this includes the decision by the Education Ministry to bring changes to the Academic calendar.

It noted that since the week after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays, schools would hold their exams, the Commission would find it difficult to get the halls as venues for voting.

The Commission also said that they decided to hold the Elections in the first weeks of Ramadan because the government has decided to close down its offices in the last 10 tens of the Holy month and that this would mean that it would be difficult to acquire assistance from government agencies and employees.

The Electoral Watchdog stated that the Commission has now decided to hold the elections on the 17th of March.
