Indian High Commission in the Maldives clarified today that the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar had a pre-arranged meeting with Foreign Minister officials.

The High Commission said in a post on X that the High Commissioner attended a pre-arranged meeting with the Maldivian Ambassador at Large Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.

It added that they both had engaged in bilateral talks.

This comes after media reports that said that the High Commissioner was summoned to the Ministry following a flare-up between the two countries over callous comments made on social media by Maldivian government officials against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, the Indian External Affairs Ministry summoned the Maldivian High Commissioner to India Ibrahim Shihab for a potential discussion on the events that have unfolded between the two countries.

The Government of Maldives said that the opinions made by top government officials were their personal views and did not reflect that of the government.

The Government has also suspended the officials who made the xenophobic comments against the Indian Prime Minister.
