President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government plans to implement a 20 percent reduction in the rents of flats built in Hulhumale' Phase I.
He announced this at a campaign rally held Male' City Mayorship Candidate from PNC Aishath Azima Shakoor in Hulhumale' Phase 1.
The President said that the previous government had not provided any relief to residents living in the flats in Hulhumale' Phase I in terms of their rents.
He said that some have to pay more than MVR 6,000 to MVR 7,000 including maintenance fees.
The President said that starting next month the rents of these flats would be reduced by 20 percent. He explained that the government is giving this relief to the people considering the economic situation in the country and seeing how SMEs have depleted over the years.
He added that many were paying their rents with much difficulty and that the government wanted to offer its assistance.
The President noted that the government would manage the 20 percent reduction in rent and that most of it could be managed via government-to-government loans. President Muizzu said that HDC would work on reducing the maintenance fee and that there were some flats whose maintenance fee was managed by the Housing Ministry. He added that HDC and the Ministry would work side by side on these flats.
Recently, President Muizzu decided to transfer municipal services in Hulhumalé to the Malé City Council (MCC) per the Cabinet's recommendation.
Transferring all municipal services in Malé City to the MCC is a pledge made by President Dr Muizzu during his presidential campaign.
