President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans to set up a first-of-its-kind Fisheries College in the Maldives. He made this announcement while speaking at the function held to mark the 43rd Fishermen's Day at Dharubaaruge last night.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed accompanied the President to the function.
In his remarks, President Dr Muizzu stated that a Fisheries College would be established in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU). Administrative efforts to realize the plan are in motion as part of the Administration's 'Hafuthaa 14' roadmap.
Speaking on efforts aimed at the progress of the fisheries sector, President Muizzu announced a special training program to ensure that every fishing vessel has at least one crew member certified as a "rescue diver." The President emphasized the Administration's Manifesto's high priority for fishermen.
The President also revealed plans to create a dedicated agency to advertise and promote fish products to foreign markets under a distinctive Maldivian brand. He outlined the ongoing and future initiatives to enhance fishermen's welfare and prosperity.
At the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu presented 19 awards to the deserving recipients of the Fishermen's Day prizes.
