Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam says he plans to extend the current term of the 19th Parliament by another two weeks.
This comes as the first extension of the third term comes to an end tomorrow after the Parliament extended its term last month.
Last month, Speaker Aslam said that the term was extended as the Parliament still had important work to wrap up including approving a budget.
Speaking at today's session, the Speaker said that these vital works are yet to be completed and also noted that the Budget Committee must submit its report 7 days before the Parliament term ends.
The Speaker said that considering all these points, he has decided to extend the parliament term by another 2 weeks.
This means the third term for the year will end on the 18th of this month.
Aslam said that this would be put to a vote at the end of today's session.
The third term of this year of the 19th Parliament had been littered with stop-start sessions with little achieved in terms of legislative work.
