Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has passed holding the Parliamentary Elections after the Holy Month of Ramadan next year.

This comes after the Elections Commission recommended the Committee to amend the law in order to hold the Parliamentary Elections before Ramadan.

The Commission had recommended two options to the Committee, one of which includes extending the election preparation date given to the Commission under the law from 120 days to 140 days which it said would allow the Commission to hold the election earlier.

The other option it recommended was cutting down the campaign time given to candidates from 20 to 30 which would allow the Commission to wrap up the election a day before Ramadan on the 9th of March.

Next calendar year the first of the holy Month of Ramadan falls on the 10th of March.

At the Committee meeting held to decide on the matter, the members unanimously opted to hold the Parliamentary after the Holy Month. The Committee passed to hold the Parliamentary elections on the first suitable date after Ramadan.
