PPM has suspended its Senate Member and former government Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal for violating party regulations.

This comes after Maleeh headed a news conference held by several members of the PPM senate appointed to a committee to head the party by the leader and former President Abdullah Yameen.

In a letter to Maleeh, PPM Vice President Shiyam said that no committee cannot be formed outside of party regulations and that the party would take action against any such decisions.

Shiyam said in the letter it has come to the attention of PPM leadership that Maleeh, who is a senate member of the party, has instigated a smear campaign within the party and is working to divide party ranks.

He said that Maleeh had acted on his own accord without notifying party leadership or the senate to form a committee and held and led a press conference in the party's name. Shiyam said that in doing this Maleeh had violated PPM's regulations.

The letter also said that a misconduct complaint had been lodged with the party's disciplinary committee and until it comes back from its decision on the matter, Maleeh has been suspended from all party activities.
