PPM's Spokesperson Heena Waleed has denied comments made at a news conference held by the steering committee selected by PPM's leader Abdullah Yameen.

In the news conference, described by local media as bizarre, it was announced that Yameen has assigned former Minister Maleeh Jamal and former Commissioner General of Customs Abbas Adil Riza as heads of the committee.

Speaking at the press conference, Abbas said that they were talking to the media as official Spokesperson Heena Waleed has resigned from her post and that Secretary-General Mohamed Tholaal has excused himself from performing his duties at the party.

Yesterday, Tholaal was appointed as the Sports Commissioner while Heena is taking a break from politics as she fights her battle with cancer.

But Tholaal denied that he has excused himself from SG duties as the news conference was going on and Heena said in a message in the PPM media group that she has not resigned from her post as party Spokesperson.

Members of the media present at the press conference last night highlighted that information about press conferences usually come from the Tholaal or Heena and that neither had informed them of last night's 'rogue' press conference.

But Abbas said that the new conference was sanctioned from Yameen and that he as the leader of the party would be making all the day to day decisions about the party.
